VT already in pursuit of 2013 QB
It's early in the process, but Virginia Tech is already taking a hard look at a quarterback in the Commonwealth. The rising sophomore was in attendance for the Hokies first summer camp on June 5th.
"I liked it," Virginia Beach (Va.) Salem 2013 quarterback Bucky Hodges said. "I learned a lot about my mechanics. The coaches talked about my release and they'd like me to bring the ball out with more velocity and the whole camp they talked about footwork too.
"I think I did well. I showed off how athletic I was."
While Hodges didn't get a lot of time with the coaches, he did meet with his recruiter Curt Newsome a bit.
"He just talked to me about how I'm going to be a special player. He said I just got to keep working on everything."
Overall it was a good visit for Hodges.
"I just liked it," he said. "It showed me what I need to work on and that I can play and made me even more confident.
"It's a real pretty campus there. The stadium is really big. They told me how it's smaller than most other college stadiums, but at night it's real big."
Hodges plans to head to East Carolina for camp soon. He's heading to Virginia on the 19th and eyeing a camp at Tennessee in July.
Does the quarterback like anybody right now?
"I grew up and my family did liking all the Florida schools," he stated. "I was watching Virginia Tech a lot growing up though and I like them because of their quarterbacks. I used to watch Michael Vick a lot."
Hodges earned honorable mention all-Beach district despite making just four starts on the year.
"I think I played well," he said. "My work ethic is really good and I love playing quarterback.
"I still want to work on my mechanics. Coach O'Cain stressed that to me. I'm also working to get my feet quicker and be faster."
Hodges is also an excellent basketball player that averaged 10-points and eight rebounds as a freshman.
