Williams continues tour with Ole Miss visit
Sylvester Williams has options. He's just trying to pick the best one.
Williams, a three-star defensive tackle out of Coffeyville (Kansas) Junior College is graduating this month and plans to sign with a four-year college in a week or two.
That doesn't leave much time to travel around and compare the different offers, but he's finally on the homestretch of his nationwide tour.
The 6-foot-3, 310-pounder checked out North Carolina and USC in November, and he visited Ole Miss this past weekend. Next up is Oklahoma State this coming weekend, and Georgia may get a trip, as well.
"I'm not rating visits or anything like that right now," Williams said. "I'm deciding where I might want to go and visiting them. Gathering information, and then I'll sort it out when I'm done."
Williams' latest visit was about locking down the opportunity for early playing time and getting some time with the coaching staff. Ole Miss loses four defensive tackles - Jerrell Powe, Lawon Scott, LaMark Armour and Ted Laurent - from this past season.
"I know I can play right away at Ole Miss, and that was the message for me over the weekend," Williams said. "They told me all about the program and tradition. I had a great time. It was a good trip."
Williams' host for the weekend was Ole Miss defensive end Kentrell Lockett.
"Lockett answered questions I had and just told me how things go at Ole Miss," Williams said. "He was a good host, good guy to talk to."
Williams was named all-region this season for Coffeyville and picked up a special teams player of the week award for blocking a point-after attempt and a punt during the Red Ravens' loss to then-No. 1 Butler.
Williams has offers from all five schools he has visited or is considering visiting.
