David Blackwell makes the call
After news leaked out this past weekend that he was ready to make his college decision, David Blackwell pulled back a little to talk things over once again with his family, but on Monday made the official call to the Iowa coaching staff to give his verbal commitment, according to his coach, Mike Morrill.
Blackwell, who tore his ACL early this season, chose the Hawkeyes over scholarship offers from LSU, Arkansas, and Ole Miss, among others. After his injury in the season opener on August 31, the three-star prospect hoped to get his decision over with as soon as possible and Iowa has been there from day one, according to his coach.
A quarterback at the high school level, Blackwell has the kind of athleticism that college coaches could use a number of different ways and drew recruiting interest as a receiver, running back, safety, and linebacker in addition to quarterback. His two finalists, Iowa and LSU, both liked him at quarterback, initially at least, and the versatility he brings to the position.
Rivals.com ranks Blackwell as the No. 83 prospect in the state of Florida this year.
