KU off and running in NCAA Tournament
All week long, Russell Robinson said the key to No. 4 ranked KU's (32-3) run throughout March Madness was staying focused and not looking ahead to any future possible opponents. Well, the Jayhawks, the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region, did just that against the Portland State Vikings. In playing its finest half of basketball of the year, two players, Brandon Rush (15) and Mario Chalmers (10) scored in double-figures for Kansas, as they cruised to a 49-26 lead after the first 20 minutes of basketball.
When the dust finally settled, Kansas had advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament by defeating Portland State, 85-61.
Just how good was Kansas during the first 20 minutes of Thursdays NCAA Tournament opener against Portland State? The Jayhawks, without a doubt, put together their most impressive half of basketball this season.
