Parks to visit UA next week
Hogansville, Ga., tight end Ricky Parks has narrowed his list of schools to Alabama, Auburn and Georgia, and this summer he's taking visits to each of his top schools.
Last weekend, Parks visited Auburn for their Big Cat Weekend, and he is scheduled to visit Alabama on either Tuesday or Wednesday next week after participating in the Mike Hodges Football Camp over the weekend.
The 6-foot-3, 230-pound prospect was in Tuscaloosa in April for the Crimson Tide's spring game.
"It was good," Parks said. "I got a chance to spend time with a lot of the coaches, and afterwards, I got to meet with all of the players.
"On game day, it was a good crowd for an A-Day game. It was a fun time for me."
UA assistant coach Kirby Smart visited Parks at his high school and talked with the Rivals100 member about coming to Tuscaloosa for one of Alabama's camps over the summer.
At the moment, Parks has no timetable for when he might make a decision and likes all three of his finalists for the same reasons.
"For all three, they've got good atmosphere on game day, great coaching staff, they're all schools that make you feel like you're at home, and they are great education-wise," Parks said. "It's the same for all three schools."
Despite all three schools recruiting him as a tight end, Parks is expected to play quarterback again this year for Calloway High School. At individual camps, he plans to work out at both positions, but he's playing strictly quarterback in 7-on-7 tournaments this summer.
A few of the schools on his list are recruiting him as a signal caller, but Parks would rather play tight end at the next level.
"I'm able to block real well, especially downfield," Parks said. "They call me 'sticky Ricky' because I catch all the balls that are thrown to me. A lot of the coaches call me a versatile player."
Parks was nominated to both the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and the Under Armour All-America Game but said he plans to play in the Under Armour game.
