Tigers work around new recruiting rules
Recruiting is planned months in advance in college football programs. So coaching staffs across the country were understandably thrown for a loop when the NCAA made a major change to the recruiting calendar on October 9th of this year.
A new recruiting "dead period" was established beginning with the day mid-year junior college players can sign a National Letter of Intent and running through Wednesday the week of the American Football Coaches Association's national convention. This year, that means the period began on December 16 and will run through January 15.
"I don't know who came up with that," Gary Pinkel said. "There's not a whole lot of common sense."
