McDonald talks about the switch
Dexter McDonald had changed his commitment to Missouri. On Monday afternoon, those rumors became official. As early as Saturday afternoon, rumors were swirling that Rockhurst prospect
"I knew going down there what I wanted to do," McDonald said of last weekend's official visit. "I just made sure I talked to the coaches and let them know what I was going to do and that's probably why the rumors started that I had switched. I hadn't yet, I just told them what I was going to be doing."
With calls to coaching staffs and Illinois and Missouri on Monday, McDonald completed the switch.
"It's tough (to call Illinois), but then again, I'm 18 years old," he said. "As you get older, you've got to be able to take on responsibility. I'd rather tell them myself than them find out some other way. I respect them enough to do that."
McDonald had had the Tigers in his top two when he committed to Illinois in June. Since then, Missouri went 8-and-4 while the Illini struggled to a 3-and-9 finish.
"I just felt like there was a lot of different stuff going on at Illinois," McDonald said. "My family liked MU since the beginning. It's close to home and at the end, basically it just felt like MU would be the right place for me."
McDonald is listed as the 76th best cornerback in America, but at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, offers the size and athleticim to play a number of different positions in Columbia. He told PowerMizzou.com he is solid in his commitment and will not look at any other schools.
