March 13, 2011With the official announcement that John Pelphrey was out as the head coach at Arkansas pending, the subplot of Missouri's announcement celebrating its NCAA Tournament destination was where Mike Anderson would be coaching after the Dance is over.
The question was asked, and answered, at least as much as Anderson can.
"It seems like this is a road we go down every year," the coach said. "I've already said, I'm a Missouri Tiger and we're looking forward to the NCAA Tournament. To me, that continues to confirm that we have a tremendous program here. We do it the right way, we have an opportunity to play on Selection Sunday, or participate in it. Again, it's something that we seem like we visit every year. It just validates, again, what we're doing here at the University of Missouri and I'm excited about what's taking place here."
Anderson did say his players are well aware of what is going on.
"I talk to our guys constantly, and our guys know me," Anderson said. "That's where the trust comes in."
Rumors are likely to continue to swirl about Anderson and the Arkansas job. Asked if he could allay fears among the fan base that Anderson would leave, athletic director Mike Alden replied, "That's an interesting question. "Because I've never thought otherwise. We have a great relationship, a great program and a lot of plans for the future."
