With preseason football practice starting up next month, Gamecock Central is bringing its subscribers a new feature breaking down a host of returning key players on the 2011 squad.
Next up is sixth-year offensive lineman Terrence Campbell.
Before South Carolina: Campbell was rated by Rivals.com out of Austell (Ga.) South Cobb as a three-star prospect. Thought of originally as a defensive lineman out of high school, he drew scholarship offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Louisville, Memphis, UAB, and UCF.
2006 Season: Campbell redshirted after suffering a knee injury.
2007 Season: Campbell, originally a defensive lineman, moved over the offensive line and saw action in one game as his second season in Columbia.
2008 Season: Working at right guard, Campbell ended up starting nine games for the Gamecocks as a sophomore.
2009 Season: After moving to the left side of the offensive line and starting the season's first two games, Campbell sustained a season-ending neck injury. Subsequently, he was granted an extra year of eligibility.
2010 Season: Campbell played in 10 of South Carolina's 14 games, starting twice.
As a sixth-year senior, Campbell has a lot of experience on the offensive line and is listed as USC's starter at right guard heading into preseason camp. He has consistenly been one of South Carolina's hardest workers in the weight room, earning the Everyday Effort Award in the spring of 2010. He also boasts one of the team's highest bench-press max numbers and was a leader during spring conditioning earlier this year. Whether it is ultimately as a starter or a backup, Campbell is a veteran who will play a prominent role on the team.
