December 6, 2011Two days after returning from an official visit, wide receiver Andrew Scanlan has committed to Northwestern.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder from Royersford (Pa.) Spring-Ford took an official visit to Northwestern over the weekend and gave his verbal commitment to the Wildcats this morning, according to Spring-Ford coach Chad Brubaker.
Northwestern is recruiting Scanlan as a wide receiver, but other programs saw him as a safety. He had collected offers from Akron, Delaware and Northern Illinois, as well as Northwestern. Boston College and Maryland were other schools showing interest.
Scanlan flew under the radar as a prospect and was not added to the Rivals database until last week. He reportedly attended a camp at Northwestern over the summer, where he caught the eye of the Wildcat coaching staff.
Scanlan had 45 catches for 771 yards and 10 TDs during the regular season for Spring-Ford. The Rams finished 10-2 and were eliminated in the first round of the PIAA 4A District 1 playoffs.
Scanlan becomes the 19th member of the Wildcats' Class of 2012. He is the second wide receiver, joining Mike McHugh.
