With the technology we have today a student athlete who shows a desire to become a BYU Cougar can instantly become a fan favorite. Every fan enjoys seeing someone from different parts express interest in their team. Weeks ago we saw that be the case with Phil Bowman Ford from Kansas who spoke with coaches and got instruction from them, and now is the case with South Carolina prep athlete Calvin Johnson

Calvin who like Phil is a recent convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints started to understand and learn about the relationship with the Church and the University. He would meet fellow members who would talk more and more about BYU which continued to draw his interest.

When church members learned of Johnson and his recruitment from other schools they started asking him about his interest in BYU. At first not knowing much he said "yeah I'd be interested."

"I'd go to church and all I would hear is BYU" says Calvin.

As he heard more and more from alumni and fans "BYU sounded really good"
"Since I've joined the church, my interest has become very high in BYU and I know that it's one big happy family there. Also I know there academic program is amazing, and I can further my studies in my religion there while in school."

Calvin really started gaining interest from schools like Missouri, Temple, Miami and others was at camps and combines. At the Shrine Bowl Combine Calvin ran a 4.49 40 and carries a 3.0 GPA. Playing mostly defense last year for Colleton County High, Calvin looks forward to playing a primary role in offensive backfield this coming year.
He has sent some info to BYU coaching staff and will be sending more this week in hopes to see an interest grow on their end as well. Right now the Cougars have offers to two other running backs, Jalen Ortiz from Arizona and Francis Bernard from Utah. We will watch to see how this plays out and what Calvin hears from BYU coaches.
