July 25, 2013
Prior to the start of fall camp 2013, PowerMizzou.com is taking the pulse of Tiger fans. We conducted a series of polls on our premium message board over the past week. This week, we will publicize and analyze the results of those polls.
We asked our subscribers, which game on the schedule looms as the most important? Here are the results.
Three games clearly stood out when fans looked at the 2013 schedule. Two are on the road, the other is Mizzou's Homecoming contest.
With 101 of 303 votes, fans chose the game at Vanderbilt as Missouri's most critical. The October 5th contest in Nashville will be Missouri's first SEC game of the season. Most expect the Tigers to be off to a 4-and-0 start. The Commodores won nine games a season ago and if this year is to reach the heights Missouri fans hope it will, a win in Nashville to start the conference slate would be huge.
Second in our poll was a game against a non-conference opponent. On September 21st, the Tigers will travel to Bloomington to face the Indiana Hoosiers. That game is Missouri's toughest before SEC play begins. Many believe a loss in that game would signal a tough season ahead for the Tigers. Of the 303 votes in our poll, 65 were cast for the Indiana game. This was the only non-conference game listed in our poll. Games against Murray State, Arkansas State and Toledo combined to get just two votes.
Game number three in our poll was the October 19th visit from the Florida Gators. That contest follows road games at Vandy and Georgia. Many consider that Missouri's best chance at an upset of the big four (Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Texas A&M) on Missouri's schedule. The Florida game collected 63 votes, just two short of Indiana.
Of the rest of the games, only the road contest at Ole Miss garnered more than four percent of the vote.
