Sam stands out in first scrimmage
The first scrimmage of the preseason is a high-profile opportunity for movement on the depth chart. On Saturday at Faurot field, one Missouri underclassman made his case for upward mobility.
Redshirt freshman defensive end Michael Sam (currently sitting third on the depth chart) was the scourge of the Missouri defense, racking up five sacks, one tackle for a loss, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery and return for 50 yards.
In short, Sam made his coaches and teammates take notice.
"He went against the one offense sometimes too," head coach Gary Pinkel said. "Michael Sam, I think everybody noticed him."
The way Sam was around the ball all scrimmage, it's no wonder. Sam's five sacks led the team by far and he was a major reason for the offense's lull in production during the middle part of the scrimmage.
