PSU offers another Bars

The Penn State coaching staff continues to add new verbal offers, this time extending an offer to Nashville (Tenn.) Montgomery Bell offensive tackle Blake Bars.

Bars found out about the offer yesterday, when he spoke with Penn State assistant coach Bill Kenney.

"I talked to coach Kenney, who is the offensive line coach," said Bars. "He just said that they really like my film and love what I'm all about.

"Then he asked me what position I wanted to play and I told him I will probably stick with tackle. He then said 'I asked that because we want to offer you a scholarship to Penn State.' I was really excited."

With older brother Brad Bars already on Penn State's campus, younger brother Blake said that the Nittany Lions will remain high on his list throughout the coming months.

"Penn State is definitely one of my top schools so far," said Bars. "I've seen it before and I definitely enjoyed my visit. I'm keeping them as one of the top schools on my list.

"With Brad being there, I definitely got to know the campus better. You always want to play with your brother, but I'm not sure if it will take a major affect on my decision. (Brad) is definitely pushing me towards to Penn State though."

The Bars family is no stranger to Division I football. That's because Blake's father, Joe Bars, played linebacker at another prestigious university.

"My dad went to Notre Dame, but he's not necessarily pushing me towards Notre Dame, it's more like, if you want to go hear, then that is totally your option."

As mentioned earlier, the 6-foot-5, 265 pound prospect would like to play tackle in the future, adding that it would be pretty cool playing right beside his older brother someday.

"They moved Brad to tight end actually, so he keeps talking about us playing together."

Bars added that he does plan on visiting Penn State sometime in April, but the official date has not been set. He does know that his father plans on being in Happy Valley for the Blue-White game on April 16, but Bars' didn't rule out a visit prior to that date.

So where else will Bars check out this spring?

"I plan on going to Florida on April 2 and I think we're also going to hit up LSU and some other schools eventually. We really aren't sure exactly where we will be going, but I know I'm excited to get back up to Penn State."
