2011 Midwest Elite Camp: WRs, TEs and OLine

As many of you know, the Midwest Elite Football Exposure Camp is a place where top high school football players from across the Midwest gather to showcase their skills. In previous years, it has featured many great talents including Jake Fisher, Austin White, Devin Gardner and Robert Bolden.

The 2011 edition took place on Sunday in Wixom, Mich. and I had an opportunity to visit the camp for the first time. It was a good chance to meet and interact with some great coaches, as well as many rising prospects.

This is the last of three articles looking at the top prospects of the camp. I have already talked about the top defensive players, along with the top quarterbacks and running backs. Today, I will look at the elite wide receivers, tight ends and offensive linemen to finish up the series.

Wide Receivers

, Class of 2012: 6'5, 181 pounds, East Lansing - In my mind, he was definitely one of the standouts of the entire camp. How he doesn't have an offer yet blows my mind. He has great size and is a great all-around athlete. Simply put, he just makes plays. The East Lansing native is also a varsity basketball player, which shows coaches his overall athleticism. He has the frame and the skill set to be a great wide receiver. If he adds some weight, watch out. During the "Best of the Best" part of the camp, he beat his defender and made an amazing, crowd-inspiring catch, despite the ball being a bit overthrown.

[db]Michael Henry, Class of 2012: 5'11, 163 pounds, Flint Northwestern - His only offer right now is Western Michigan. He wasn't a player that stuck out at first, but he great improved as the day progressed. He has great agility and athleticism. In the "Best of the Best", he went in and out of his cuts so well that he lost his defender with ease, but he dropped the catch. However, his hands did look good before that play. I think he can make those catches in pressure situations.

Gairus Coleman, Class of 2013: 5'8, 180 pounds, Farmington Hill Harrison - Currently has two offers. One is from Cincinnati and the other is from Bowling Green. Even though he is only a sophomore, he has a big, stocky frame. Has pretty good hands and good awareness on the field.

Other Notable Prospects

Clarence Turner, Class of 2012: 6'3, 184 pounds - Grand Blanc
Brandon West, Class of 2013: 6'3, 190 pounds - Warren Delasalle
Alton Yarbrough, Class of 2013: 6-foot-0, 167 pounds - Grand Blanc
Troy Sassack, Class of 2012: 6'5, 190 pounds - Notre Dame Prep
Brandon Jackson, Class of 2012: 5'9, 170 pounds - Zeeland East
Alex Zmolik, Class of 2012: 6'4, 220 pounds - Port Huron

Tight Ends

Tanner Kearns, Class of 2012: 6'5, 225 pounds, Lexington (Ohio) - Has offers from Central Michigan and Toledo. He has great has a great frame. Displays good hands and an ability to block. This kid has a lot of potential.

, Class of 2012: 6'5, 240 pounds, New Castle Chrysler (Ind.) - Has offers from Ball State, Northern Illinois and Central Michigan. He is a big man who can block and catch. He has a great mix of quickness and strength.

Other Notable Prospects,

[db]Bill Albert, Class of 2012: 6'3, 210 pounds, Brighton - Has offers from Western Michigan, Miami (OH), Akron, and Central Michigan

Eric Saubert, Class of 2012: 6'5, 210 pounds - Huffman Estates (Ill.)

Offensive Line

Steven Elmer, Class of 2013: 6'6, 294 pounds, Midland - Simply put, he is a beast. He has good footwork and technique. In the "Best of the Best" he went against Jabari Dean and just manhandled him. He is definitely one to watch as he is only a sophomore.

Drake Miller, Class of 2012: 6'5, 270 pounds, Sturgis - He is a big man with great size that has 100.5 inch wingspan. At points during the camp he dominated and at other times he looked like just another prospect. He needs to work on technique and footwork to help develop consistency. He definitely has the size to dominate at the collegiate level.

Kyle Knapp, Class of 2012: 6'3, 260 pounds, Portage Central - Has offers from FIU, South Alabama and WMU. Has the ability to make big plays combining his size and athleticism. He is really quick getting off the ball. If he gets stronger and adds some size, he will definitely be a player to watch out for.

Matthew Thornton, Class of 2012: 6'5, 285 pounds, Owosso - He has great size and displayed it at the camp. He has the potential to be successful at the next level.

Nathan Jeppesen, Class of 2013: 6'3, 270 pounds, Portage Central - For such a large kid, he definitely doesn't lack any athleticism. He is a little raw, but he is only a sophomore so he has plenty of time to refine his skill set.

Storm Norton, Class of 2012, 6'8, 301 pounds, Whitmer (Ohio) - Has offers from Cincinnati and Kent State. He is massive. The 6'8 and 301 pounds that is listed at is no exaggeration. Comes from powerhouse school (Whitmer) and possesses a lot of tools, but he was inconsistent at this camp. Certainly a player to watch.
