Houston offers Keller defender
In what has become expected with the Houston staff following summer camps several players that had good performances have begun to reel in offers.
Following a strong showing at camp last week in Desoto, where he left coaches very impressed with his abilities, the Cougars have offered Keller Central cornerback Zack Sanchez.
"They offered me yesterday", Sanchez told CougarsDen on Thursday night. "They're definitely in my top three."
The 6-foot-0, 172 pound Sanchez was a big playmaker for Keller Central last season, earning himself a first team All-District 7-5A nod on defense. He plays on both sides of the ball for the Chargers and is used heavily on offense at receiver, but with his quickness and ball skills, cornerback is where he will end up at the next level.
Sanchez may have been flying under the radar for a lot of teams prior to camps, but his interest is starting to grow more and more and with a strong showing like he had in Desoto.
"It started out slow," Sanchez said of the recruiting process. "It's really starting to blow up now though."
Sanchez performed well at the Desoto camp in one-on-one's where he matched up against some of the area's best receivers.
"The camp was really good," said the speedy defender. "I had a really strong showing at cornerback. I was pretty much shutting down every receiver."
With word getting out about the speedy athlete and more and more teams showing interest, Sanchez has a few on top early.
"Baylor is my favorite but Houston is right there," he said. "I really enjoyed talking to the coaching staff at camp and was thrilled when I got the call and offer on Wednesday night."
The Chargers return 11 starters on a team that went 5-5 in 2010. After starting the season strong at 4-1, the Chargers lost four of their next five games and narrowly missed the playoffs. Something Sanchez hopes to fix in his senior year.
"We're doing things this school's never done before; we're going to surprise a lot of people."
