The Big Board: ILBs

The Big Board - Inside linebackers

Main Targets

Shannon Brown - (6-1, 235-pounds, Adel, Ga., Georgia Military College) - Brown is a big time talent at the inside linebacker position, and some even say he is a perfect fit for the 3-4. He has a thick, muscular build and plays with a great deal of explosion. Brown plays through blocks so well that is seems as if he doesn't even see them. He also has a nasty streak and really likes to run through opposing ball carriers.

Recruiting: While it is uncertain whether or not Brown will be a 2012 or 2013 recruit, Georgia and Alabama are the two teams that are vying for his signature. Brown originally committed to Alabama for the 2011 class, but reopened his commitment and didn't sign with a team as he left high school early to enroll in junior college. The fact that he transferred from East Mississippi Community College to Georgia Military College can only mean good things for the Bulldogs, and many close to the talented prospect believe that his relationship with defensive coordinator Todd Grantham gives Georgia the edge.

Dillon Lee - (6-4" 228-pounds, Buford, Buford High School) - Lee is an extremely athletic linebacker with a ton of range. He has long arms and legs, but he runs like a compact linebacker. His strides are short and explosive, and he plays in a natural football position. Lee is not a big time hitter, but he is an excellent form tackler and has the ability to excel in coverage. He needs to get better at shedding and playing through blocks, but coaching at the next level show him out to use his long limbs to do that with no problem.

Recruiting: Lee has been an Alabama commit since late spring. Despite his commitment, Lee is still a priority for Georgia as they were late to offer him due to a coaching change at his position, and it appears that he is now listening. Lee's brother, Dallas Lee, is the starting left guard for the Bulldogs, and this has given Georgia many opportunities to get the young man on campus. Lee's commitment remains with Alabama, but time will tell if Georgia can pull him away.

Keep an Eye On

Ukeme Eligwe - (6-3" 220-pounds, Stone Mountain, Stone Mountain HS) - Eligwe is the total package as a football player. He has speed, intelligence, instincts, and attitude. He has a natural calmness about him that other players feed off of, but he leads by example. Eligwe stars on both sides of the ball for Stone Mountain, and he is explosive. He is a guy who can cover well and unload on an opposing ball carrier. He needs to put on some weight, but that is the only thing that could be construed as a weakness in his game.

Recruiting: Eligwe is another UGA target at inside linebacker that is committed to another school. Eligwe committed to Florida State in late spring, and many thought his recruitment was over. Since that time, the peach state standout has decided that he will take visits to Georgia and Florida. He claims that he is still committed to FSU and he will take a visit there, but he also says that he wants to make sure he is making the right decision. Anything can happen when a recruit takes an official, so UGA and Florida are still possibilities at this point.

Overall

When the season began, it was clear that Georgia wanted to sign multiple inside linebackers in this class. While that may still be the case, it appears that the Georgia defensive staff is more comfortable with the depth that they have developed, and they might only take one or two guys in this class. It is clear, however, that they will recruit Lee and Eligwe to the bitter end.
