Roberson talks Orange offer and more

Roselle (NJ) Roselle Catholic small forward Tyler Roberson is one of the top ranked small forwards in the class of 2013. The prospect is holding offers from programs in the A-10, ACC, Big East, and Big 12. One of the Big East schools that has offered is Syracuse.

"Syracuse offered me over the summer. I was excited when they offered," Roberson said. "I was excited because they are a good school and I have seen them on TV a lot. I just like them."

Roberson, 6-foot-7, 190 pounds does not know much about the Orange, but he has plans to learn more about them.

"I have not had a chance to take a visit yet so I do not know much about the campus or anything. What I do know is that they have a solid basketball program and they are a darn good. I will probably visit Syracuse in the spring after my basketball season."

One of the Orange top recruiters is Mike Hopkins and that is who is heading up the recruitment for Roberson.

"Coach [Mike] Hopkins is recruiting me a lot, so I have a good relationship with him."

Rivals.com lists Roberson as a small forward, and that is how Syracuse sees him.

"Syracuse is looking for me to play forward out on the wing."

Does the four star prospect have any programs sticking out right now?

"As of now I do not have any favorites."

On another recruiting note there were allegations of child molestation brought against Syracuse Associate Head Coach Bernie Fine and there was thought that it could impact recruiting. That is not the case for Roberson.

"I do not even know too much about it," Roberson stated. "I still like Syracuse a lot. I think what happened is just a situation, but I think everything is going to be ok with Syracuse."

Had Fine ever played a role in Roberson's recruitment.

"I have never had a chance to meet or talk with Coach Fine at all."

During the recruiting process a coach from another program could try and recruit negatively against Syracuse and bring up this situation. If another coach does bring this up Roberson will be ready with a response for them.

"Basically, I will just tell them that Syracuse is still a good school and what happened there was unfortunate."

Other than the Orange there are over twenty schools that are keeping tabs on Roberson, but he will not have a good idea of favorites and the schools he wants to visit until after the season.

"I have not really started to think about visits yet. I will more towards the end of my season and then I will figure out what I am going to do."
