Urban Meyer has hit the ground running in the early hours of his tenure at Ohio State. On Tuesday night, Meyer extended his first verbal offer as head coach of the Buckeyes to Cleveland Heights (Ohio) wide receiver Shelton Gibson. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound speedster was thought to be a prospect that would head out-of-state but the offer from Meyer has made him rethink things.

"Being coach Urban Meyer's first offer is real nice," said Gibson. "It's definitely going to make me think about things because I remembered that I had called you the other day and I was thinking about committing to Auburn. I sat down and talked about things with my family and now I'm going to take some time with things and go on more visits before I commit. After this offer tonight, I'm going to have to definitely take a while and think about some things."

Gibson liked the fact that he was the first junior prospect to receive a verbal offer from Meyer after taking the head coaching job on Monday.

"He just said that they are offering me because I'm one of the best in Ohio," he said. "He said when they came in that everybody said, 'that Shelton Gibson kid has great speed' and he said that I was the first person that he offered for 2013 and the first person he offered when he got the job so that was pretty nice."

Gibson has commented in the past on his strong desire to play in a spread type of offense that showcases speedy skill players and said he thinks he could fit in well in Meyer's system.

"Ohio State was always in my top five but Meyer came from Florida and I'm guessing he's going to run the offense that he ran down there," Gibson explained. "He's probably going to bring in more speed people to the Big Ten."

Gibson added that he feels Meyer will bring a different style of play to what is currently being run in the Big Ten.

"I like the reverses, the jet sweeps and just the fast pace," he said. "When I went to the Michigan vs. Michigan State game, I have nothing against the Big Ten, but like they really don't get the ball to the receivers a lot. Some of the receivers just don't get the ball a lot so I look at the Big Ten as like having big linemen and big, fast running backs and the backs get the ball all of the time. Urban Meyer coming to the Big Ten, he likes to throw the ball a lot so that's pretty cool."

The Ohio State offer is the second huge offer for the talented speedster in the last few days. Gibson picked up an offer from Auburn on Saturday night after his unofficial visit for the Iron Bowl.

"It was good," Gibson said of his visit. "The atmosphere was great, Gameday was there so it was my first time in the prime time with Gameday there."

Gibson listed Alabama and Wisconsin as two other programs that are showing heavy interest and could soon be offering.
