Akron wide receiver has Spartan offer

One of the top wide receivers in Ohio for the class of 2013 is Kevin Gladney of Akron Firestone High School. Michigan State is one of several Big Ten teams that have already offered him a scholarship. spoke with Gladney and got the details on his recruitment and his future plans.

Michigan State signed a very good wide receiver class in 2012, but the coaches are not resting on their laurels. The Spartan staff is looking for a big-play wideout and Gladney is one of a few select prospects they are focused on for 2013. recently released its first edition of position rankings and Gladney is listed as the #48 wide receiver in the nation and a 3-star recruit. He talked about his recruitment.

"The schools that are recruiting me the hardest right now are Nebraska, Michigan, Michigan State and Akron University all of them have offered," he stated. "I am also hearing a lot from Purdue and Iowa, they could offer soon too."

Gladney is an excellent all-around athlete. This past winter he averaged 19-points a game for Firestone's Basketball team. He was an All-City selection in both basketball and football. In the fall, Gladney put up big numbers for his Firestone team. We asked him about his statistics and his current measurables.

"As a junior I had 70 catches, averaged 16-yards per catch and scored 12 touchdowns. I am 6-foot-3, 185-pounds," Gladney said.

Gladney attended an Ohio State Junior Day back in February, but at this point it does not seem like he is a plan A recruit for Buckeye Head Coach Urban Meyer. Ohio State already has scholarship offers out to 6 wide receivers from the state of Florida alone and over a dozen prospects overall. asked Gladney about Michigan State and is he has any plans to visit East Lansing or other schools in the coming weeks.

"I talk with Coach Narduzzi from Michigan State," he said. "I have not been up there yet, but I will probably get up there sometime soon. I will be going to the University of Michigan on April 14th."

The Spartans will have their annual Green and White game on April 28th. It is very likely that Gladney will be invited to attend that contest. will follow-up with Gladney in the coming weeks to confirm his visit schedule and get updates on his favorite teams.
