Challenges confront Kyle Kalis' bid to play
Michigan's depth on the offensive line is not where it needs to be. The Wolverines return just seven scholarship linemen from last year and ended the spring with a walk-on, Joey Burzynski, the starter at left guard. But that doesn't mean it's a guarantee five-star Kyle Kalis will see the field this fall ...
Kalis is a hot topic on The Fort these days, and has been for some time, as Michigan fans argue over whether Kalis should play and, more importantly, if he'll be ready to play.
True freshman offensive linemen have seen the field before, but not many, with just eight earning a varsity letter since freshmen became eligible in 1972. Of those eight, only four - Bubba Paris in 1978, Tom Dixon in 1980, Dean Dingman in 1987 and Justin Boren in 2006 - started a game. And of those four, only Dingman started multiple contests (three).
