GBK Prospect Update: McLean, Joseph & Holloway

With nine days remaining for the Army 2012 season to kickoff, there are some anxious players called the Black Knights who have finished their summer training camp and are chomping at the bit to get started.

Likewise, there is one 2013 Army commit, who truly understands that feeling, as defensive end Andrew McLean is just one day away from his season's opener.

"Our first game is in two days, on Friday night," shares the future Black Knight. "We open up against Pomona, who finished 3rd place in 5A last year, so it's definitely going to be an intense game."

McLean says that he is optimistic about his team's chances throughout the 2012 campaign. "To be honest, we are looking amazing," he adds. "I mean, all our position are filled with great players and the ones that we had a few questions about coming into the off-season we got filled. Overall, we look like a great team and our overall goal is to win the 4A state championship."

The 6-foot-3, 240-pound defense end out of Louisville (Colo.) Broomfield High School, indicated that his early decision has allowed him to focus on the task at hand, which is senior football season.

"It's great not to have to worry about what college I'm going to," says McLean. "I'm extremely happy that I made my decision to go to Army and I couldn't be happier with where I am right now."

Of course, the Colorado native say he now has two teams that he is anxious to see perform well this season. "I can't wait ... I'm looking forward to that game against San Diego State," he offers. "I've been counting down the days to their (Army) season and counting down the days to my season as well."

For McLean, the first and only time that he will be able to catch his future team up close and personal will be at the tail end of the Black Knights' season. "I plan on going to the Army-Navy game, because it's the only one that allows for my schedule for me to attend," he confirms.

Patrick Joseph, OL

Conversely, fellow Black Knight commit and future teammate, Patrick Joseph has already seen his senior year get underway, but probably not in the manner that the team had hoped for.

The Hamilton High School in Chandler (Ariz.) squad finished the 2011 season with a 13-1 record and were Arizona's 5A-DI runner-up. Not to mention that they were ranked No. 46 in the nation in the 2012 Preseason RivalsHigh 100. However, in their first game they suffered a disappointing 17-14 loss to Mountain Pointe.

On Saturday, Joseph and this teammates are looking to rebound against nationally ranked Notre Dame High School (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) in a very unique football location, called Dublin, Ireland.

Jared Holloway, DT

Then you have Jared Holloway, who remains as one of Army's top recruiting target for the 2013 class, but won't have to travel abroad to start off his season, but like McLean is anxiously awaiting the start of his senior season.

"Things are going well now, but right now I am more focused on my high school team," shares the defensive tackle prospect.

"We have our season opener this Friday against Fairhope High School. They beat us last year and actually, they are the only team to beat us in the regular season ... so we are looking to pay them back."

With his two offers coming from Army and Air Force, Holloway feels that a few others are knocking his door. However, the two academies appear to stand out for the the Mobile (Ala.) St. Paul's High School prospect who stands at 6-foot-1, 270 pounds.

"I called Coach Hendricks of Air Force to see about an official visit and going to reach out to Coach Holmes of Army to schedule one to West Point as well," declares Holloway.

But Holloway did point out that it's the season before him that stands as priority before making any college decision. "Right now I'm not thinking about it. I'm more focused on high school football, trying to do good with my team and get a state championship," he states.
