Patchan Talks About UNC Offer

There isn't any hiding it in the class of 2015 that Florida is a hot spot and a heavy hitter for North Carolina coaches, as they already have two commitments from the sunshine state.

But they haven't stopped there, as yet another player from Florida has received an offer, as 6'6", 225 pound defensive end Scott Patchan received an offer from the Tar Heels last week.

According to his twitter account, Patchan wrote "Offered by University of North Carolina #Tarheel's #blessed" last Thursday and Tar Heel Illustrated was able to catch up with the big fellow from Freedom (Fl.) high school and talk about his thoughts about the recent offer.

What are your thoughts on the offer from North Carolina?

"It's a great offer. They are a great school and they have great academics there"

Who got in touch with you about the offer and what does the staff like about you as a players?

"Well, Coach Brewer was the one I got in contact with and that offered me. They said they like my ability to get off the ball and that I'm fast and athletic, especially my ability to track down the ball/ball carrier and make the play."

For someone who doesn't know too much about you, how would you describe yourself and what are you wanting to improve?

"I work towards being the fastest I can be because I feel like if the offensive lineman can't touch me, it makes my job easier. I plan on running track to get faster as well but I'm also working on my run game better. I want to stop the run better and this offseason, I'll do my best to bulk up to help out with that more.

UNC is no stranger to having the young guys get playing time early on. Did they say anything about early playing time and where they see you at?

"They said it would depend on my weight I could play defensive end of what they call the bandit position but it all depends on my weight."

What schools have offered you and are showing interest?

"I have been offered by Miami (Fl.), FIU, South Florida, Tennessee, Boston College, Clemson, Vanderbilt, and UNC. I'M receiving interest from schools like Nebraska, Indiana, Kentucky, Florida State, Notre Dame, Western Kentucky, N.C. State, Minnesota, and Michigan State."

Do you plan on making a visit to Chapel Hill?

"Yes, for sure. Nothing is planned yet but I will soon."

Florida has a hot spot for athletes and there is no doubt that the coaching staff for North Carolina are looking to make a mark in recruiting for the upcoming 2015 class.

In the class of 2014, Josh Allen and Tajze Battle were nabbed from the sunshine state, whileRonnie Harrison and recent commit Andre Smith are also from the Florida area.

Patchan's ability at defensive end and his wide frame certainly help him on the field and in recruiting, as he will likely be receiving more offers in the future with his ability, speed, and strength.

So far this season, Patchan has recorded 57 tackles, 28 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and five fumble recoveries.

Taking a look at his highlight tape, anyone can see that this defensive end has all the ability in the world and shows impressive speed out from the edge, tracking down opponents.

Tar Heel Illustrated will continue to keep in touch with the big time Florida defensive end throughout his recruitment, getting updates throughout the season and when Patchan might visit Chapel Hill.
