Ole Miss adds big DT to 2008 class

Only one day after National Signing Day 2007, Ole Miss picked up its third commitment for the Class of 2008.

Bakersfield Community College sophomore to be defensive tackle Daniel Calvin made his pledge to the Rebels Thursday.

"I'm very excited about being an Ole Miss Rebel," Calvin said. "Coach Ryan Nielsen started recruiting me out of high school. He has kept up with me and I appreciate that."

Calvin was first team all region and defensive player of the year his senior year at Bakersfield High School. He earned second team all conference honors as freshman last fall in community college.

"There were several schools on me coming out of high school, but grades were an issue," Calvin said. "San Jose State, Nevada both offered me when I was in high school. I have recently heard from UCLA."

Calvin, a 6-foot-4, 310-pound defensive tackle, recorded over 50 tackles and eight sacks last fall for Bakersfield CC.

"I really like Coach Nielsen," Calvin said. "I can't wait to meet Coach (Ed) Orgeron and the rest of the Ole Miss coaching staff. I'm going up there during my bye week in the fall for an official visit."

Calvin is not expected to graduate in December but mostly likely in May.
