Arthur ready to shine
With a roster so loaded with talent, the Kansas Jayhawks have plenty of options in looking for a star player. In that group sits Darrell Arthur, the 6-foot-9, 225-pound sophomore-to-be who can basically do it all. During Wednesday's scrimmage with both current and former KU players, Arthur displayed his many talents. The Dallas-native is a rising star in college basketball, and possesses the talent capable of All-American status. With Julian Wright headed to the NBA, its Arthur's turn to step up and shine.
Bill Self was lucky to get Arthur. After taking his time and considering his options, it was down to Baylor and Kansas. A day before his announcement, the word around the recruiting world was Scott Drew and the Baylor Bears had won the battle for Dallas' top player.
The press conference was postponed to the following day. All the air had been sucked out of Waco, Texas, as if everyone knew Arthur had decided to go to Kansas. Sure enough, a text message the next morning to KU's head man read, "I'm coming to Kansas."
One year later, Arthur is ready to show the college basketball world how good he really is. For Kansas fans, Wednesday's scrimmage was another chance to see how lucky they are.
"We're just having fun, trying to give the kids a show," said Arthur. "We just wanted to show the campers a few dunks and stuff like that, something exciting."
