Smith recaps trip to San Diego State

As expected, Charles Smith took his first official visit out to San Diego State this weekend. The 6-foot-6, 235-pound defensive end prospect from Las Vegas (Nev.) Desert Pines came away impressed with what the Aztecs have to offer.

"I actually just got back," said Smith. "It was a pretty good trip, I had fun. I didn't really know what expect going in but it was pretty cool. I toured the campus, met the players and coaches and got to be around them on game day."

What stood out to him about San Diego State?

"Well, the school itself stood out to me," Smith expressed. "And the team stood out, as well. They are playing a lot of young guys and I feel like they are going to be good in the future. The coaches said they could use me and they would not be afraid to play me early if I came in there ready."

Smith said he is currently favoring San Diego State, but he plans to wait the process out and take as many trips as he can before reaching a final decision.

"I am going to visit Idaho next weekend and I have also talked to Wyoming, Colorado State and Boise State about possibly visiting sometime in January," Smith explained. "I will choose the college that I feel most comfortable with."

Smith was named first-team all-region as a defensive end after he recorded 70 tackles and 11 quarterback sacks as a senior. He was also named second-team all-region as a tight end.

"I have good quickness and I try to take on the mentality that no one can block me," Smith said.
