Hawkeyes land Indiana RB

The Iowa Hawkeyes picked up a verbal commitment today from Indiana running back Jewel Hampton. The 5-foot-9, 195-pound Hampton, who rushed for 2,095 yards and 27 touchdowns this season, made his decision during his official visit to Iowa City this weekend.

Hampton, who attends Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, was hosted by freshman defensive end Christian Ballard on the official visit. The two-star prospect also had the chance to spend some time with the Iowa coaching staff, who told him about the opportunity they have at running back next year.

As a junior last year, Hampton played behind Virginia Tech recruit Darren Evans, but still managed to rush for 513 yards averaging over 10 yards a carry. This year, as the feature back, the senior showed the same type of big play potential and finished with 216 carries for 2,095 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Hampton was a first team all-state selection this year in Indiana's Class 5A.
