OL prospect set to visit Iowa

After making a late run to land Dan Hoch from Harlan, Iowa assistant Reese Morgan moved quickly to the next prospect on his list of offensive linemen and he might have found one in the Big Sky region with the state's Gatorade Player of the Year.

It's hard for Billings Central Catholic Head Coach Jim Stanton not to gush about Casey McMillan. The 6-foot-4 and 295 pound offensive guard/defensive tackle helped lead his high school to a state title this past year and by all accounts he is pretty close to being the complete package as a student-athlete.

"He is an honor student with a 3.8 gpa and was the Gatorade Player of the Year in Montana. He has scored very well on his ACT and is in the national honor society," Stanton said. "He is also on our basketball team and on the track team where he throws the shot and discus."

"He is a tough kid and the type of person that would go to one of these bigger schools and really develop into a very solid player. I think being in Montana probably hurt his interest a bit, but whoever ends up landing him will be getting a pretty darn good player and a real good student."

The recruiting interest was slow to come, but now the bigger schools are starting to get interested McMillan, including the Hawkeyes.

"He has some offers from schools like Wyoming, Colorado State, Montana, and Montana State. Iowa is having him in for a visit as well as Washington State. I would imagine they will offer since they are bringing him in for a visit," Stanton said.

The Iowa interest came from an interesting angle. An alumnus in the Billings area was familiar with McMillan's play and sent a note to the Hawkeye coaches, who acted pretty quickly. According to Stanton, the Iowa coaches called the day after they received the tip and asked for film on McMillan. The day after viewing the film, Iowa offensive line coach Reese Morgan was on the phone saying that the Hawkeyes would be interested and could be offering.

Coach Morgan then made a trip out to Billings to make sure that McMillan was the size he listed and set up an official visit for January 25th to Iowa City.

If the Hawkeyes offer on his official visit, Stanton suspects that McMillan might be quick to take the opportunity because he wants to play at the highest level possible in college.

"I think he has the desire to go to the highest level. If a school like Iowa comes out and offers him, I think that is something he would probably jump on."
