Signee update: Lester injury mended

Robert Lester
Position: Defensive back. Position Ranking: 23rd-ranked safety.
High school: Mobile Foley.
Commitment Date: 10/12/07.
Recruited By: Lance Thompson.

Present size: 6-2, 207 pounds.

On his offseason workout routine: "I've been practicing 110s and working out a bunch. I ran track in the spring - ran the 4x100, and the 100 meters. I'm working out six days a week right now, just trying to get ready and come in in the best shape I can. My bench press is around 280, 290."

On his reporting date: "I'll be there June 1st."

On his future jersey number: "I've been told I'm getting 21, but we'll have to see. I hope it's 21 - I've had that number ever since I started playing football."
[Editor's note: No.21 was worn by Prince Hall last season, but is status is uncertain with an indefinite suspension.]

On his course of study at Alabama: "I'm undecided right now."

On his future roommates: "I pretty much run with Julio Jones and Burton Scott, so probably those guys."

Self-description of playing style: "I would say my strength is my size and ability to cover the field, and the ability to play 1-on-1 press coverage. I like to hit people as much as I like to play the field and get a pick."

On his future position at Alabama: "I think they want to try me at corner first, but if not, then at the safety spot Rashad [Johnson] plays. But I like playing safety a lot more than corner, unless there's a big-time receiver like Julio to go head to head with."

On when he was certain he wanted to attend Alabama: "When I went to the summer camp, the way they pushed me to make myself better, I fell in love with it. I didn't have an offer then - I had to work for it. After the Daphne game, that's when I got my offer and committed to coach [Lance] Thompson the very next day."

On his post-commitment recruitment: "Oklahoma and Texas Tech definitely stayed after me. I made a visit to Oklahoma with Julio and had a good time, but I knew Alabama was the right place."

One thing people don't know about you: "I can play the saxophone. My dad bought me one when I was 10, ever since then I learned how to play it. =My dad got me a personal instructor and I played it for about seven years. But I never pull it out now - not since I started playing football."

On his recovery from a shoulder injury suffered in the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star game: "Before I got hurt, I was doing real good in the game, and I believe they [the Mississippi All-Stars] set me up. They came after me. I was out a good two months. I bruised a certain muscle in there that took a long time to heal, and missed pretty much all of my basketball season. I had to go to rehab - there was a lot that went into it. At first I thought I could go back in, but when I tried I could hardly move my arm. I'm ready to go now, though."
