Voltz extends Barrington Army Bowl tradition
BARRINGTON, Ill. - Dan Voltz was able to accomplish a goal that he set very early on in his high school football career on Tuesday as he was presented his official invitation to play in the annual U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
It seems that playing in the Army Bowl is becoming a tradition at Barrington High School. Voltz now becomes the third player from the school located in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago to play in this prestigious game.
"I remember growing up and watching both Garrett (Seeger) and Dan (Doering) playing in the Army Game on national TV," Voltz said. "Seeing those guys playing on national TV in the Army Game really set my mind in playing in the Army Game. It's a nice tradition to be a part of at Barrington and hopefully we can keep that tradition going for years to come."
Voltz also is taking his responsibility of representing the Army very seriously.
"It's just a huge honor to be able to represent the U.S. Army in this bowl game. Playing in this game has been a goal of mine now since my sophomore year and it feels great to reach one of the goals I set for myself."
Voltz has been all quiet on the recruiting front ever since giving the Wisconsin Badgers his verbal commitment back in the early spring.
"I'm still very solid to Wisconsin. I still get some mail and some phone calls but basically they don't bother me at all anymore. I've been up to Wisconsin a few times this season. I went to the Nebraska game and I also took my official visit already for the Indiana game. The official visit was great and I really was able to spend time with the players and the coaches and got to know them much better. I'm all set to go with the Badgers and I can't wait until Signing Day."
While Voltz is thrilled to be officially named to the Army Bowl, he still has some football left this season.
"We start the playoffs this weekend and I'm still hoping to have about five more games left to play before I get to play in the Army Bowl. It's going to be great to end my high school career playing with some of the top players from across the country. But for now I want to just keep winning games and to help us win the Class 8A state title. We've won our last three games and I'm confident about our chances in the playoffs."
Voltz and the East team take on the West in the 12th annual U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The game will be nationally televised on NBC.
