Kyle Hicks set for UT junior day visit

Arlington Martin running back Kyle Hicks put up a stellar junior season, helping lead the Warriors to a regional championship, the deepest run in the school's history. Over the course of the 2011 season, Hicks rushed for 1,682 yards and 26 touchdowns and he added 235 yards and a couple scores on 19 receptions.

An explosive athlete that can do damage as a running back or in the defensive backfield, college coaches have taken notice.

Hicks is receiving interest and has received junior day invitations from the likes of Texas, LSU, Oregon, TCU and Texas Tech, and he'll be in Austin this weekend for the Longhorns' first junior day of the year.

"The Texas coach, coach (Bruce) Chambers came up tot the school and told my coach they'd like me to come to their junior day. He said they were very impressed with my highlight film," Hicks said. "Then they sent me some stuff in the mail probably a week ago."

The 5-10, 170-pound Hicks has stayed in touch with the Texas coaching staff since picking up the junior day invitation, including a recent conversation with UT running backs coach Major Applewhite.

"I talked to Coach Applewhite on the phone. He was just saying that I was good player, that he liked my playing style, that I'm a really smooth runner and that I can be big in the future," Hicks said.

Along with the Texas junior day, LSU, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State have extended junior day invitations. At this point, Texas is the only visit that's locked in.

"They're just a high power footballs school and I like them," Hicks said of the Longhorns. "I like the coaching staff. I grew up watching Texas. They've been a good, successful team and I just like them."

Hicks ranks No. 44 on the most recent Lone Star Recruiting Top 100. He's been offered by TCU and Utah State.
