Maryland DT has BC connection

Darius Commissiong has a last name that Boston College fans will be very familiar with.

Jeff Commissiong, BC's defensive line coach, is his cousin. That would seem to be a key connection that could only help the Eagles' chances. Early this week the Forestville (Md.) Bishop McNamara defensive tackle made it clear that he's very much interested in BC.

"I wouldn't say it gives them a huge boost but having him up there is definitely a plus," he said of his connection with the BC assistant.

"He's told me and my father numerous times that he would take care of me if I went up there. I know I could go contribute early there if I went to compete. He basically told me I could be a significant part of the team and help change the culture and get them back to their winning ways."

Commissiong visited Boston College for the first time last July and he's planning on making a second trip to BC on March 24.

The first trip went about as well as it could have.

"It was real nice. I mean, it was nice," he said with emphasis.

"It was warm when I was there and it was a real beautiful place. The coaches were real hospitable."

Ryan Day had been Commissiong's primary recruiter but now those duties will fall to his cousin. That's just fine with the 6-foot-2, 285-pound defensive tackle.

"He and my dad talk on a daily basis. He's my recruiting coach and they might have somebody else that recruits this area but he's the one who helped me schedule my visit," he explained.

"We talk all the time. I'd say we talk every week or so."

Commissiong averaged 12 tackles per game and had 13 sacks on the year at Bishop McNamara.

He maintains that he has no favorites and will also visit Michigan and West Virginia next month. He also noted that he believes more offers are on the way.
