Mizzou adds to 2012 basketball class

Mizzou was able to lock in a solid class of five prospects during the early signing period of the 2012 basketball recruiting year. Additionally, they have two scholarships still available that they may use on 2012 prospects during the late signing period. Recently, though, the Tigers were able to add another member to their class without using one of their remaining scholarships.

Eric Moeller, a 6'10" 205 lbs center from DeSmet HS (MO), was recently offered a preferred walk-on opportunity with Mizzou and accepted. It was a process that started when Mizzou coaches visited DeSmet to observe Moeller's teammate Nolan Berry.

"Missouri coaches had come in to watch Nolan practice and workout and stuff so to get me some exposure our coach would have me work out with Nolan. The Mizzou coaches liked me the first time they saw me and they had me come down for the elite camp," Moeller said. "They showed interest off and on after that and then towards the end of the season they asked me to come down to some of their games."

Moeller's recruitment came to a head when he was invited to Mizzou for it's Selection Sunday announcement. He had been offered the preferred walk-on opportunity back in early February but hadn't completely made up his mind on what to do until that weekend.

"It was hard to pass up the scholarship offers from schools like Denver and Arkansas St., but Mizzou just felt right and it was close to home so I decided to accept the opportunity," said Moeller.

The plan for Moeller is to come into Mizzou with the rest of the 2012 class at the beginning of the summer. He will redshirt during the 2012-13 season while he works on developing his strength and adding weight. The redshirt year will also allow Moeller the opportunity to work on his already diverse game.

"I have a good post game and I like to play in the post, it's what I did in high school, but colleges really liked how athletic I am. I can dribble, I can shoot threes if I have to, but I'm willing to do whatever the team needs me to do," Moeller said.
