Devon Brown ready to become a Bulldog

The Bulldogs landed a player in Devon Brown from Riverside (Calif.) City College who has the potential to come in and immediately help the Fresno State program.

Brown chose the Bulldogs over offers from Bowling Green, Colorado State, Old Dominion and Utah State. He talks about why he chose the Bulldogs.

"When I went on my trip to Fresno State, it felt like home," Brown said. "I felt comfortable there.

"Also Fresno State runs the spread offense and I felt like, compared to the other schools, they didn't really throw the ball as much and me coming as a receiver, Fresno State was where I felt more comfortable.

"The offense Fresno State runs is more my offensive style to play in. I liked the atmosphere and that is close to home."

Brown can't wait to get to Fresno State in June, and he is doing a lot of things to help him get ready.

"I'm working out and actually running track," Brown said. "I'm just trying to get my speed right and I'm lifting to get bigger so I am ready for college football.

"I'm going there to compete for a starting position and try to win a championship there. I just want to help out the team as best as I can."

Brown committed to Fresno State last December.

"I actually thought I was going to be a mid-year guy, but I had to finish up these classes at RCC," Brown said. "It was still a great commit. I'm not mad that I chose Fresno State. I'm glad I chose Fresno State and I am still loving it."

Brown runs the 100 and the 200-meters. His best time in the 100 is 10.73 and in the 200 his best his 21.4.

The Bulldogs get a player in Brown who was a first-team all-conference selection in 2012 after hauling in 51 receptions for 812 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Though he didn't return a lot of punts or kicks because his coaches wanted Brown to focus on his receiving skills, he hopes to get a shot as a return man for Fresno State, in addition to winning a starting receiver spot.

Before Brown played at Riverside Community College, he played for one of the state of California's best high school football programs in Corona Centennial.

Brown has three years of eligibility to play two. That means he has a redshirt to use, if necessary.
