Colorado guard is a national level prospect

It isn't like Josh Perkins is a total unknown. But, the junior point guard is a bit of a mystery player in the class of 2014.

Ranked No. 42 nationally, Perkins is a 6-foot-2 point guard at Denver (Colo.) Regis Jesuit. Given that top 50 players don't come out of Denver all that often, the buzz around him seems to have picked up nationally more than it has locally.

Perkins doesn't lack for motivation, but admits that he gets some extra fire from those who question his ability.

"It seems like you would get more love in your own state, but it's more nationally than it is locally," Perkins told Rivals.com. "It drives me a little bit. Like, haters (are) my motivators always. But I just have to do me, most of the time."

If there are any haters left, there can't be too many of them because Perkins is legit. The four-star prospect has excellent size, can score and has well above average floor vision.

"I make my teammates better," Perkins said when asked to describe his game. "I'm a leader who hates losing but I bring the best out in my teammates. I can also score when I need to."

During the winter, Perkins took an official visit to New Mexico. Steve Alford is gone, but he's showing interest at UCLA and the Lobos are still interested. He'll visit Gonzaga the first weekend of May and mentioned others like Colorado, Creighton, Kansas, Baylor and USC as being involved.

Initially, Perkins had planned to decide early. But, after watching all of the job turnaround in the spring while starring for his father on the Colorado Miners, Perkins could slow things down.

"Whenever the gut feeling comes we'll make the right decision when the time is right," said Perkins. "With the changes and it all it makes waiting a good option because of the firings and whatnot. So I think waiting is probably the best option.

"But like I said the with the gut feeling, we'll make the right decision."
