2014 Hoops Hot Board, Part 2

With the spring AAU season coming to an end, PowerMizzou.com takes a look at the top targets that Frank Haith and his staff are pursuing in the class of 2014. As it stands now, Missouri has three scholarships for the class.

Basketball Hot Board - 2014

Larry Austin - PG 6'1", 160 - Springfield (Ill.) Lanphier - St. Louis Eagles

The number 63 ranked player in the Rivals150, Larry Austin, is the highest ranked point guard with a Mizzou offer that is not committed elsewhere. At one point Missouri looked to be in good shape with point guards for the 2014 class, but after adding a second point guard late in the 2013 that has changed. Anton Beard decommitted and then committed to Arkansas. Chris Chiozza went from having the Tigers at the top of his list to committing to Florida. Austin is still hearing from the Tigers, but his interest has cooled on them somewhat as well. The Tigers will have to make strong push if they are going to lock in another top tier point guard. In addition to Mizzou, Austin has been hearing a lot from Iowa, Tennessee, Memphis, Oklahoma St., and Illinois.

Jordan Barnett - SF 6'7", 180 - St. Louis (Mo.) CBC - St. Louis Eagles

The number 83 ranked player in the Rivals150, Jordan Barnett, is the top ranked prospect in the state of Missouri for the class of 2014. Barnett has visited Mizzou multiple times and attended the Braggin' Rights game in St. Louis. He lists the schools he is hearing from the most as Mizzou, Michigan St., Iowa, Stanford, and Florida. Additionally, Barnett has started to pick up new interest from Texas and Michigan. None of the schools Barnett is hearing from are standing out yet, according to him, and it appears that his recruitment will take a while to play out.
Mizzou: 30%

Marcanvis Hymon - SF 6'6", 185 - Memphis (Tenn.) Whitehaven - Team Thad

The number 86 ranked player in the Rivals150, Marcanvis Hymon, is another prospect that has already visited Mizzou multiple times. Hymon holds offers from Mississippi St., Auburn, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Memphis in addition to Mizzou. After some more summer visits Hymon plans to narrow his list down. At one point I would have been fairly certain that Mizzou would make the cut, but now I am not as certain.
Mizzou: 25%

Josh Cunningham - SF 6'7", 195 - Chicago (Ill.) Morgan Park - Mac Irvin Fire

The number 100 ranked player in the Rivals150, Josh Cunningham, is one of Mizzou's more recent offers. The AAU teammate of Cliff Alexander is a very talented player in his own right. After a strong spring AAU season that saw Cunningham get his Mizzou offer, he told me that he has had a lot of contact with Mizzou recently. With offers from just Mizzou, Iowa, and Virginia Tech currently, Cunningham is taking his time with recruiting. I get the feeling from talking with him that Mizzou is in a very good position with the athletic small forward.
Mizzou: 40%

Joe Burton - SF 6'7", 205 - Humble (Texas) Atascocita - Franchize All-Stars

The number 112 ranked player in the Rivals150, Joe Burton, is another very recent offer for Mizzou. Burton currently has offers from Oklahoma St., Boise St., and UTEP to go along with the new Tiger offer. Burton told me that Rick Carter is the Mizzou coach recruiting him and the Tigers like his aggressiveness on offense and defense. Burton, who is looking for a school that has great coaches that will develop him as a player and a person, plans on making his decision in the fall. With the list of schools that have offered Missouri appears to be in a good position.
Mizzou: 35%

Malek Harris - SF 6'7", 170 - Orland Park (Ill.) Sandburg - Illinois Wolves

The number 120 ranked player in the Rivals150, Malek Harris, is another Chicagoland target for the Tigers. Despite being the lowest ranked player on the Hot Board, Harris has one of the best offer lists. In addition to Mizzou he has offers from Kansas St., Auburn, Creighton, Iowa, Marquette, and Oregon St. Despite that strong offer list a source told me that the Mizzou offer made a big impression on Harris. If Mizzou can get him in for a visit this summer is a possibility.
Mizzou: 45%
