Summer Sessions: J3

The Missouri basketball team has been back on campus working out for about three weeks now in preparation for the 2013-14 season. Over the next couple of weeks, PowerMizzou.com will speak with every scholarship member of the team. We continue our question and answer sessions with the Tigers today with incoming freshman Johnathan Williams III.

PowerMizzou: How's the transition going, basketball-wise and otherwise?

Johnathan Williams III: "It's pretty hard. Just the fast pace of the game, got to learn the plays and it's kind of tough. But just pray to God and keep working hard."

PM: Is there one of the older guys who has kind of shown you the ropes so far?

JW: "Keanau. He's new too so it's kind of funny, but me and him grew a good friendship and he's a good guy and I look up to him. But my whole team's pretty much good guys. You look up to everybody so it's pretty good."

PM: Can you tell a difference even in pickup in the level of basketball here and what you've played the last few years?

JW: "It's two things, specifically. Faster and stronger players. That's about it, though."

PM: Coach said a lot of the young guys need work in the weight room as much as anything. Is that a big deal for you?

JW: "Yes, sir. I came in at 207."

PM: What's the goal? What do you need to get to?

JW: "About 225. The struggle was real. When I first came in, I was skinny. Real skinny."

PM: What do you do with coach Pandov? What are the workouts like?

JW: "We do upper body, legs. He's very good at what he does. If I stick with him and continue to work hard with him, the sky's the limit as far as my body."

PM: What's your game like? What do you think you can contribute in your first year?

JW: "I can contribute first off by scoring the ball, getting rebounds and blocking shots. Those are my three areas I'm really good at."

PM: The guys you came in with, is there a newcomer that you look at and you're really impressed with him as a first-year player?

JW: "I don't like being specific. I don't like beating my teammates down. All of them are pretty good. They have certain things that they're really good at. I have things that I'm good at, they have certain things that they're good at as well."

PM: Is there anything that has proven to you since you got here that you made the right choice and is there anything that, not that you didn't make the right choice, but anything that surprised you or that you didn't expect?

JW: "That's a very hard question, sir. Everything's been great. It's a great atmosphere. I like the academic tutors. They help me out a lot with classes. I just like the coaching staff. They push us to be the best. We're trying to win a national championship.
