Kentucky misses on Mudiay
Emmanuel Mudiay committed to SMU.The Kentucky Wildcats missed on their top point guard target in the class of 2014 on Saturday when
The five-star guard from Dallas Prime Prep decided to stay close to home and play for SMU and legendary coach Larry Brown, choosing the Mustangs over Kentucky, Kansas, Baylor and Oklahoma State.
A consensus top-five prospect in the class, currently ranked No. 3 in the 2014 Rivals150, Mudiay was long considered the top perimeter target of Wildcats head coach John Calipari.
However, Mudiay's desire to stay close to his family was apparently too much for Calipari to overcome, as UK made a rare miss on a point guard target.
With Mudiay out of the equation for Kentucky, the Wildcats now likely will put extra pressure on signing at least one of the other two point guards that they have offered in the 2014 class, Tyus Jones and Tyler Ulis.
While Mudiay's physical tools might have made him a more classic fit for Calipari's system, both Jones and Ulis are more pure of set-up men and could provide excellent production in a facilitating role if Kentucky is able to land the majority of its high-scoring wing and interior targets.
Check back later tonight for our premium scoop on what to expect in the 2014 Kentucky recruiting class now that Mudiay is no longer in the picture.
