Tigers up to No. 5
Following a 24-10 win over Ole Miss that moved them to 10-and-1 on the season, the Missouri Tigers have moved to No. 5 in the BCS Standings. The Tigers are behind Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State and Auburn.
Missouri jumped over Clemson this week. While Mizzou won at Ole Miss, Clemson blew out the Citadel. Clemson is No. 6 with Oklahoma State, Stanford, Baylor and South Carolina finishing out the top ten.
Mizzou has its first top five ranking since the 2008 season. The Tigers host Texas A&M at 6:45 next week at Faurot Field. The Aggies are 21st in this week's standings. If Missouri wins that game, it advances to the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta on December 7th against the winner of Saturday afternoon's showdown between Auburn and Alabama.
Missouri's hopes to chase a potential national title got a boost on Saturday night when previously unbeaten Baylor lost to Oklahoma State. If Alabama and Florida State win out, those two teams will meet for the title. However, if the Tigers can beat Texas A&M, they would get a shot at either the Crimson Tide or Auburn in the conference championship game. Should they win that one, the Tigers would still quite likely need a loss from Ohio State or Florida State. The Buckeyes play at Michigan at 11 a.m. Central time this weekend before facing No. 11 Michigan State in the Big Ten Championship Game on December 7th. The Seminoles face Florida this weekend and will play in the ACC Championship.
