Bowl Breakdown

With one game left to go, there are five possibilities out there for Missouri's post-season. Here is our final bowl forecast before the selections are made next Sunday.

Because the SEC title game winner cannot slip below the Cotton Bowl this year, Mizzou will go to one of five games. The Cotton and Outback make their selections at the same time, so going to the Outback is not "slipping below" the Cotton.

LocationOpponentWhat has to Happen
January 6th, 2014/Pasadena, Ca.BCS #1 vs BCS #2Missouri needs to beat Auburn. Do that and the Tigers will almost certainly move past the other Tigers and Alabama in the BCS. Mizzou then needs either Florida State to lose to Duke or Ohio State to fall to Michigan State.
January 2nd, 2014/New Orleans, La.BCS at-largeThe only way Missouri gets here is by beating Auburn while Florida State and Ohio State both win. Alabama is all but assured of an at-large BCS bid, meaning the SEC title game loser will be outside looking in at the BCS.
January 1st, 2014/Orlando, Fl.Big Ten #2 (Michigan State/Wisconsin)If Mizzou loses the SEC Championship game, the Capital One will have a choice between the Tigers and South Carolina. Missouri will have one more win, but the Gamecocks won the head to head matchup and aren't coming off a loss. If Ohio State beats Michigan State in the Big Ten title game, the Spartans could fall to the Capital One, though they may still be in line for a BCS bid in the Rose Bowl, thanks largely to Clemson losing last weekend.
January 3rd, 2014/Arlington, Tx.Big 12 #2 (likely Baylor/Texas/Oklahoma)This isn't likely. Even if the Capital One goes with South Carolina, the Cotton and Outback pick at the same time. The Cotton historically takes an SEC West team and has expressed interest in LSU. That seems to be the most likely choice.
January 1, 2014/Tampa, Fl.Big Ten #3 (Wisconsin/Iowa)If the Capital One goes with the Gamecocks, it is likely the Outback would choose Mizzou and the Cotton goes with LSU. Wisconsin slides to this game if Michigan State isn't in the BCS as an at-large team or the Big Ten champ. If the Spartans make the BCS, Iowa is headed to Tampa in all likelihood.
