Tim McAvoy's Commitment Is Official

Always a hotbed for talent, the state of Illinois has produced such high profile recruits as Jason Avant, Mike Kolodziej and Tim Jamison in the past few years for Michigan. This year's is regarded as one of the better classes in terms of talent for the Chicago area and it's outer lying regions, and the Wolverines have taken advantage by landing a class of 2005 commit in Bloomington's Tim McAvoy.

Unlike his cinematic namesake, Roy "TinCup" McAvoy, the 6-6, 260-pound offensive tackle prospect did not falter when opportunity presented itself. Apparently the Wolverines informed him they were tendering a scholarship and McAvoy quickly jumped on the offer as he told TheWolverine's Chris Balas would likely be the case following his impressive performance at the UM summer camp.

"I got to talk to Coach Carr after the camp, and he told me they are going to discuss their priorities," he said at the time. "They'll have to see what things happen - if things happen right, I'll be blessed. They would probably be my top choice."

According to McAvoy, the Wolverines had been looking at him as an offensive tackle as opposed to tight end, the position he played as a junior. That suits McAvoy just fine.

Rivals.com ranks McAvoy as the number 19 prospect in the state of Illinois and lists him as a tight end. In his junior season he earned all-area and all-conference accolades while playing both ways for the state runners-up in class 6A.

Also a whiz in the classroom, McAvoy holds a 3.1 GPA and has already notched a 24 on his ACT, making him an easy qualifier. His father, Tim Sr., played collegiate football at Illinois.

We will have comments from McAvoy himself as soon as he can be reached. Stay tuned.
