Missouri will open fall camp in just about a month. Southeastern Conference Media Days start in Birmingham in two weeks and PowerMizzou.com will be there. As our leadup to the unofficial kickoff of daily coverge for the 2012 season, we will take an in-depth look at every position on the roster headed into camp. We start today with the quarterbacks.
The Starter: If health is no issue, there is no doubt it is James Franklin. Franklin comes off a season that was comparable statistically to Chase Daniel's Missouri debut. He posted the same record both Daniel and Blaine Gabbert did in year one. Assuming his surgically repaired shoulder allows him to do so, Franklin will start every game.
The Backups: With Franklin out for most of spring Corbin Berkstresser assumed the top spot. He had days where he looked like a starter and days where he looked like an inexperienced rookie (which he is). Ashton Glaser had some good days as well, but he has been on campus for three years and never gotten close to the starting role. True freshman Maty Mauk arrived in June and will get plenty of looks in fall camp as well.
Camp Outlook: It would be a surprise if Berkstresser lost the backup spot. Mauk has plenty of potential, but 20 practices isn't often enough to vault a true freshman into such a prominent spot. The coaches know what Glaser is and at this point, it doesn't look like he is a guy that will ever get real meaningful playing time. With Franklin, the talk all still has him ready to go when camp begins. But nothing can be certain until he is out there when the Tigers open practice.
