What multiple recruits had told PowerMizzou.com on Sunday night became that much more official on Monday afternoon. Gilbert Moye is a Missouri Tiger.
"He did make a verbal commitment on his visit," said Diboll High School coach Gary Martel. "He was just pleased with everything he saw."
Martel said he had spoken to Moye about the decision and it was the atmosphere at Mizzou that was the clincher.
"He just said it felt like a family," Martel said. "That is what he is looking for. He wants something to latch on to. There are a lot of schools across the country that can offer that, but he just really liked the coaches and liked everything he saw up there."
Moye played both quarterback and defensive back for Martel this season. He only had a chance to play about two-thirds of a season due to some transfer issues, but he made quite an impression in that limited time.
"I tell you what, he's a player," Martel said. "He could play just about anywhere, but I really do think he can be a quarterback if you give him some refinement and some coaching. I think he can do that."
Moye's athleticism has drawn comparisons to former Tiger Brad Smith and even Texas star Vince Young. The three-star prospect is rated as the No. 42 athlete in the nation and the No. 70 overall player in Texas right now, but those rankings could well improve prior to signing day.
PowerMizzou.com is still making efforts to reach Moye himself and will have more as soon as we speak with him.
