Redshirt report: Matt Hoch

Intrigued by Missouri's desire to use him as an H-back, Matt Hoch made a late switch from Iowa to the Tigers during his senior year. It also helped that his older brother, starting right tackle Dan Hoch, is a key member of Missouri's offensive line.

Matt Hoch: "I don't know. It all depended on what was going on in terms of the players in front of me and I ended up redshirtting. It's worked out pretty well for me so far, going against the ones and the twos, being on scout team this year."
PM: Where do you feel like you improved the most this year?
Hoch: Blocking, for sure, especially going against Aldon and all the good defensive ends, Gachkar and Ebner, it's really helped me improve.
PM: You don't hear a lot about the importance of blocking with Missouri's tight ends. Was that a big adjustment for you?
Hoch: You still definitely have to block, but it's not as much as some of the pro-style offenses. It's definitely a change from how it was in high school. It's not as much hand-on-the-ground.
PM: Are you viewing these bowl practices as a way to impress the coaches for next season?
Hoch: Yeah, to start off and then with spring ball to get some more time. Definitely right now, we gotta go hard every play and show the coaches what we can do.
