Saturday practice report

Missouri held its final practice before classes start for the players on Monday. The Tigers worked out for a little over two hours on Faurot Field. PowerMizzou.com has the full rundown on the workout:
*To catch everyone up on the injury report, here are all the players that did not participate in practice: Will Ebner (hamstring), Adam Burton (unsure), Kevin Rutland (back), De'Vion Moore (unsure), Jerrell Jackson (wrist), Kerwin Stricker (unknown), Jimmie Hunt (ankle), Donovan Bonner (knee, out for season), Jimmy Burge (ankle), Jarrell Harrison (knee), and Dan Hoch (toe). Lucas Vincent was back at full speed with no red on.

*At punt return, the Tigers are working T.J. Moe, Carl Gettis, Kip Edwards, Marcus Murphy and Henry Josey. Gary Pinkel has said he would prefer not to use a freshman there. I think it will be Moe or Gettis. Gettis told me, "T.J. wants it, but I'm going to hold on to it. He can wait till next year." Moe and Gettis are friends going back to high school so it's a friendly competition.
*Neither will take the job this year, but Braylon Webb was working with the holders and Matt Hoch with the snappers on placekicks.
*The punt coverage team looks to consist of a mix of mostly starters. I saw Gettis, Trey Hobson, Zaviar Gooden, Andrew Gachkar, Kenji Jackson, Jacquies Smith, Beau Brinkley, Luke Lambert, Bart Coslet and Resonno out there with the top cover unit.
*We'll have a full story on the developments on the defensive tackle depth tomorrow, but Brendan Donaldson took some reps with the ones at Terrell Resonno's spot today. That would normally have been Burge, but the ankle injury kept him out today.
*L'Damian Washington dropped a couple of passes that I saw today, but he also made a very nice play, catching a slant, turning up field and sprinting through the number one defense for a long gain.
*No player has me more perplexed as to what his role will be than Andrew Jones. He is not the athlete that some of the others are at tight end, but he's also the only guy that I don't know if I've seen him drop a pass all camp. He catches everything. But a ten-yard pass to Jones is not going to go for a 50-yard gain. I'll be interested to see how he is used, as well as how much.
*Darvin Ruise was working with the No. 2 defense all day, ahead of Josh Tatum. Ruise told me he doesn't know for sure yet if he's going to play, but hopes to. Tatum made a nice play with the three defense, batting a pass up in the air and nearly interceptiong it. A full depth chart is supposed to be released on Monday.
*The two-minute drills at the end of practice belonged to the defense. Aldon Smith ended the No. 2 offense's drive with a sack of James Franklin that put the offense in fourth and 22. Marcus Lucas kept the three offense alive with a diving catch (I thought it hit the ground) on fourth and five, but Jeff Gettys picked Glaser to give the three defense a stop.
*Play of the Day: The first-team offense had driven to about midfield on a Blaine Gabbert scramble in the two minute drill. But freshman corner E.J. Gaines--working with the No. 2 defense-intercepted Gabbert along the sideline on the next play to end the drive. Gaines continues to stand out and I wouldn't not be at all surprised to see him shed the redshirt this season.
The Tigers will not practice the next two days with classes getting started. They return to the practice field at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. PowerMizzou.com will still have plenty of coverage between now and the next workout.
