Over the next two weeks, PowerMizzou.com will take a look at every position on the Missouri football roster. We'll review what happened in 2016 and look forward to 2017 both in terms of the current roster and the upcoming recruiting class. Today, we start with the quarterback spot.
Season Review: Drew Lock became the first quarterback not named Chase Daniel or Blaine Gabbert in the top five of the school's single-season passing chart. Lock threw for 3,399 yards, a mark that puts him No. 5 on that list (side note: assuming Lock stays four full years and remains healthy, he will fairly easily become the second-leading passer in Tiger history).
Lock's detractors will say that much of his production came against Eastern Michigan and Delaware State. There is some truth to that. Lock threw for 852 yards (more than a quarter of his season total) and ten of his 23 touchdowns in those games. In the other ten contests, Lock averaged 254.7 yards and had 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Those are relatively pedestrian numbers.
Lock did, however, take a step forward in the final three weeks of the season. Here are Lock's numbers in those three: 59-for-106, 882 yards, 4 touchdowns, 2 interceptions. More importantly, Missouri won two of the three and Lock tripled his SEC win total.
