The Missouri Tigers have made plenty of basketball headlines in recent weeks, but it was back to the football field on Tuesday. PowerMizzou.com recaps the first practice following spring break.

*Injury update: Gilbert Moye and Derrick Washington were both on the field in red pullovers. I saw Moye catch a pass, but didn't see Washington do much. Still an upgrade from the practices before break though. Jared Perry also caught some balls. He won't be in contact drills this spring, but should be able to get some work.

*A few notes from one-on-one receiving drills:

Del Howard played nice defense on a ball thrown to the corner intended for Andrew Jones.

Kevin Rutland got a pick when Ashton Glaser underthrew his target in the corner of the end zone.

Jimmy Costello threw a couple of touchdown passes. He hit Jerrell Jackson on a crossing route over the middle and later found Rolandis Woodland for a score. I'm no expert, but in the first half of spring ball, the pecking order at quarterback seems fairly cut and dried to me. Blaine Gabbert is the starter and Costello is an obvious number two, at least from what I've seen. There's plenty of time for it to change, but that's what I've seen so far.

Jon Gissinger made a great one-handed catch while being interfered with.

*On the defensive line, it looked like George White was working with the second team at tackle ahead of Andy Maples.

*Robert Steeples and Woodland gave us the first mini-skirmish of the day when they tangled well after the whistle. What's practice without a little dust-up?

*Some notes when the first-team offense faced the number one defense:

Sean Weatherspoon did a nice job on an inside run play, stuffing DeVion Moore for no gain. The drill wasn't full contact, but Spoon had the play made.

Jacquies Smith was in the backfield a couple of times pressuring Gabbert

*During a one-on-one tackling drill, DeVion Moore absolutely steamrolled Kenji Jackson to win his matchup.

*Play of the Day: In red zone drills, Gabbert lofted a ball high toward the back corner of the end zone. Wes Kemp went up and made an impressive grab over the top of a defender for the score. Kemp's size and athleticism could be a nice weapon in the red zone for the Tigers.
