Missouri will open fall camp in less than a month. Southeastern Conference Media Days start in Birmingham in less than two weeks and PowerMizzou.com will be there. As our leadup to the unofficial kickoff of daily coverge for the 2012 season, we will take an in-depth look at every position on the roster headed into camp. We continue on defense with a look at the linebackers.
The Starters: Nowhere, perhaps, are things more settled. Zaviar Gooden and Andrew Wilson have jobs on lockdown on the outside flanking Will Ebner who hopes finally to remain healthy in the middle and follow the career path of Luke Lambert who battled injuries through his career before having a strong finish as a senior.
The Backups: Donovan Bonner had a standout spring and is in good shape to be one of the backups. Darvin Ruise showed well in the spring game and could be a factor as well. Keep a camp eye on Kentrell Brothers who had a shot to play last season before a camp injury ended his season.
Camp Outlook: Missouri knows what to expect from its top three. That trio will get the majority of the snaps. Bonner has come along nicely over the last year and as long as he stays healthy ought to be the top reserve. A fifth linebacker has to be ready for action and that could come down to Ruise vs Brothers. However, incoming freshmen Donavin Newsom and Michael Scherer have drawn rave reviews from those around the program and juco product Markus Golden could be ready to contribute immediately as well. There is no lack of depth and competition for the last spot or two could be fierce in August.
Projected Depth Chart: Zaviar Gooden/Will Ebner/Andrew Wilson, Donovan Bonner/Donavin Newsom/Markus Golden
