Fall camp preview: Receivers

Over the next couple of weeks, PowerMizzou.com will get Tiger fans set for fall camp with an in-depth breakdown at every position. We will outline the likely starters headed into fall camp, highlight a few backups who could challenge for a job, and set the scene with the major camp storylines at each spot. This will be a special free series on the site, every day for the next ten days. Today, we look at the wideouts and tight ends:

The Starters: With the top two pass-catchers from last year gone (and a number of NFL players having left the last four years), Missouri is somewhat starting over at receiver. Jerrell Jackson (37 catches, 458 yards, 2 TDs) and Wes Kemp (20, 335, 3) seem to be in solid position to start. Andrew Jones returns from shoulder surgery as the starting tight end. As of now, T.J. Moe or Rolandis Woodland looks like the third starter.

The Backups: Along with Moe or Woodland, L'Damian Washington should see meaningful time at wide receiver. Michael Egnew may have been the offensive star of spring ball and will see plenty of snaps at either wideout or tight end. Players like Brandon Gerau and Kerwin Stricker enter fall needing to make their presence felt soon if they are to see meaningful time during their careers. Beau Brinkley is a solid option for depth at tight end as well.

The Top Story: First off, Missouri needs to figure out how it replaces Danario Alexander, who put up the best season in school history last year. Alexander caught as many passes as the next four wideouts combined last season, along with accounting for more than 40% of the team's receiving yardage and more than half its touchdowns. Can the passing game become more diversified? It simply has to. In addition, what impact will the class of Marcus Lucas, Bud Sasser and Jimmie Hunt have? At least one is likely to play and two of the trio could skip the redshirt. Lucas has generated a lot of summer buzz and could be a breakout star in his first season in Columbia.
