It had long been suspected that Elijah Gardiner was part of Missouri's 2017 recruiting class. But the 6-foot-5 wide receiver from Kemp, TX (southeast of Dallas, population 1,200), had never done an interview and never publicly stated he was going to be a Tiger. After returning home from his official visit to Columbia this weekend, that changed.

Gardiner's high school team plays 3A football in Texas and his name was more or less a completely unknown just a couple of months ago. He tweeted that he had received offers from Mizzou, Houston and Texas Southern on November 13th. Two weeks later he tweeted a picture of an in-home visit with Andy Hill and now he has said he will spend the next four years at Mizzou. He is Missouri's 18th known commitment.

Gardiner played quarterback, wide receiver and running back at various times in his high school career for the Yellow Jackets. He also plays basketball and runs track.

Even at a school known for nabbing under-the-radar prospects from Texas, Gardiner is quite a mystery. PowerMizzou.com will continue to attempt to talk to Gardiner about his commitment to the Tigers.

Below are highlights from his junior season at Kemp High School.
